Project Background

Development of intelligent robot to autonomously navigate and charge electric vehicles using machine vision, LiDAR and GPS technologies while avoiding collision with obstacles in its path. Development of architecture to be flexible to readily adapt to other applications for unstructured environments.

Our Scope

Developed multiple high-level concepts and evaluation criteria
Developed system architecture for main components of the selected concept: home station, robot, battery pack
Defined architecture for autonomously navigating robot to plug and unplug battery for charging at home station, carry batteries to vehicle, plug and unplug battery to vehicle
Designed robot platform with relevant drives and connectors
Designed main board to facilitate robot’s autonomous navigation using lidar and GPS communication with home station and vehicle and machine vision capabilities
Designed battery pack featuring cell stack, charge controller and DC to DC convertor
Designed home station featuring all communication protocols

What we did

We thoroughly understood our customer’s mandate and assembled a a highly talented multidisciplinary team with expertise in product design, embedded systems, robotics, autonomous navigation and machine vision. We synthesized very innovative concepts and undertook detailed design for this very complex project. We tapped into our deep pool of experienced engineers during peak loads to complete this project in 50% of the time. Our customer rated our final deliverables at 9.5/10 for innovation and rated us as one of their top global partners.

Project Background

This project was focused on Alexa integration for our customer’s smart home appliance suite. Our customer’s business objective was to bring innovation and automation to the consumer’s home where simple voice commands could start, stop or change the settings of a variety of their products including coffee makers, microwave ovens, cooking ranges, washers and dryers. Furthermore, by leveraging Amazon Integrations, by simply talking to Alexa the consumer could not only control these appliances but also reorder via Amazon Dash when supplies are running low.

What we did

The business objectives and the marketplace mandate for integrating Alexa in our customer’s smart home appliance suite were very clearly defined by their top management. We put together a team led by our veterans in the consumer space and they were supported by a very capable team with engineering experience in home appliances and Alexa integration. We had a very structured process for knowledge acquisition from the customer’s engineering, purchasing, sales and marketing personnel. Once the implementation, testing and validation were successfully completed we had one of the highest ratings from our customer.

Development of driver safety and health monitoring device to continuously monitor driver behavior and usage patterns to significantly reduce fatigue and stress. The device must have ability to analyze data in real time and take preemptive action to minimize accidents and safeguard the driver’s health.

Our Scope

Developed multiple high level concepts and evaluation criteria
Architected and developed vision-based system that integrates driving behavior data from multiple sources
Noninvasive continuous bio signal measurements with over 200 parameters extracted
Designed and developed cloud based dashboard for live monitoring with photo, video, data capture of critical events
Deployed image analytics and edge computing for preemptively taking corrective action and generating driver alerts for over speeding, collision, driver drowsiness and fatigue detection through heart rate variability (HRV)
Developed prototypes which were successfully field tested under a variety of terrains

What we did

We put together a highly talented multidisciplinary team to realize our customer’s vision for this very innovative product. The team comprised of domain experts and practitioners in product design, embedded systems, machine vision, data analytics and edge computing. We developed multiple high level concepts and evaluation criteria for the driver safety and health monitoring system. Once we had architected and engineered the system we developed prototypes which were successfully field tested under a variety of terrains. Our performance on this project was rated at the top by our customer including awarding us 9.5/10 for innovation.

Project Background

The objective of our long-term partnership was to develop innovative consumer healthcare devices for a select portion of their product portfolio and also maintain their legacy products. This would free enough bandwidth and enable our customer to better focus on their hospital equipment business. Our customer also wanted to achieve significant cost savings and accelerated deliverables.

Our Scope

Our product portfolio included heart health monitor, glucometer, pulsed skin therapeutic device, infusion pump, ventilator and multi-parameter patient monitor.

New Product Portfolio: product design, embedded systems, should costing, VA/VE, global sourcing, data analytics, cloud enablement and application software. Competitors’ product benchmarking through tear down, feature analysis and cost estimates global sourcing including supplier evaluation, product and supplier transition and quality management
Legacy Product Portfolio: obsolescence management, firmware and software upgrades, regulatory compliance, assessing component availability and forecasting risks. Pre/post launch support including service, operator training and spare parts manuals, resolution of field failures

What we did

We created an offshore development center for our customer with specific focus on two broad areas: new product development and legacy product support. Our technical teams were dedicated to our product portfolio which included product design, embedded systems, VA/VE, global sourcing, data analytics, cloud enablement and application software. We developed a dedicated knowledge management system for our product portfolio and this was populated with the knowhow transitioned from the customer to our ODC team. As our center matured we archived our new findings and lessons learned in our knowledge vault which became a reservoir for existing engineers and a training ground for new engineers as the center expanded. We have an extremely satisfied customer and partner since we have been able to exceed all their expectations on business and technical metrics.

Development and re-design of industrial grade mass transit video reader for 50% cost reduction by using an integrated approach combining robust product development methodologies, value engineering, value analysis, global sourcing and the latest Next-Gen technologies.

Our Scope

Study of functional, assembly, safety and anti-theft requirements
Cost estimation of legacy video reader by vendors
Idea generation, review and selection
DFM / DFA study of selected ideas
Mechanical, electrical, optical, microcontroller board and software design
Detailed should costing and value engineering for new components and assembly and cost estimation for bought out items including PCBS, cables and enclosures
Prototype fabrication, testing and validation of new video reader
Manufacturing assembly and testing of prototypes

What we did

This redesign of the mass transit video reader was led by our VA/VE program managers due to the very demanding requirements from our customer for a 50% cost reduction. Our delivery team was composed of specialists in the areas of product design, embedded systems, optics, software development, VA/VE, data analytics and global sourcing. The redesign effort was concurrently supported by should costing analysis in order to provide the program managers a real time view of target achievement. We successfully completed the prototyping, testing and validation of the video reader and provided our customer savings of $425, well over their 50% target.
